From Our Founder
Spencer Brands Group was established in 2004 to supply the course requirements of students studying at the 43 universities in Australia. For most of my career I was a on campus academic bookseller and was involved in retailing to students, university staff and departments.
From this knowledge and experience of campus retailing we saw the commonality of student course requirements across the 43 universities. Starting with supplying lab coats, we developed and manufactured extensive product ranges for this market in Australia and New Zealand.
Source SBG (Spencer Brands Group) is a diversified Queensland owned and operated wholesale and retail business servicing consumer and business markets for over 19 years as a designer, manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of specialised workwear.
Source SBG’s origins stemmed from an opportunity to supply all Australian universities with lab coats and gowns for their clinical and research students and staff. The product range quickly diversified and expanded to include all university apparel, promotional items and PPE requirements and our footprint for these goods has widened substantially to provide for a range of Australian and New Zealand governments and industry sectors.
From inception we have manufactured all our apparel products offshore, having developed sustainable long-term relationships with a number of quality factories that meet strictly monitored Australian and international standards and regulations. Source SBG’s operations are otherwise based in Australia with our head office at Pine Mountain and warehouse facilities at Wulkuraka, outside Ipswich in Queensland.
With key wholesale markets in all levels of government, scientific research, higher education, manufacturing, health and big box retail, Source SBG also retails online and in-store under the brands The Lab Coat Company and Spencil.
All of the above adds up to a Total Apparel Management System which is well honed from years of experience managing the needs of a diverse range of clients. Source SBG is an agile and experienced company allowing us to tailor our systems for each client, ensuring every step from ideation to order fulfilment to end-of-life is streamlined and provides a superior customer experience. That’s why we continue to service the majority of Australia’s universities (35+unis/1.5m students) year after year, relying on us to continue to deliver.
